Town sign Tunmise Sobowale

Former Shrewsbury defender arrives in SN1

10 June 2024

Swindon Town are delighted to announce the signing of defender Tunmise Sobowale on a permanent deal, subject to EFL approval.

The 25-year-old started his career with Waterford, making his debut in 2016 before moving to Spanish side Hércules two years later and returned to Waterford in 2020.

Following his time in Ireland and Spain, Sobowale then joined League One side Shrewsbury Town in 2023, where he went on to make 29 appearances in League One last season.

Since making his professional debut in 2016, Sobowale has made over 100 appearances in both the third tier of English football, as well as the top tiers in Ireland, as he now looks to further his career with us at Town in 2024/25.

The versatile Irishman is mostly featured as a right-sided wing-back and will look to offer his services down Swindon's right-hand side going into the new season.

Upon signing his contract with Swindon, Tunmise Sobowale said: "It feels great to get the deal sorted and coming here today I've been welcomed by everyone and it's great to get a feel for the surroundings and the place is full of so much history and can't wait to get going."

"I'm loving the energy that I get from the club, we should be looking to get promoted and I'm just looking forward to getting out in front of the fans."

Head of Football, Jamie Russell furthered: "Tunmise fits the profile of a modern-day wing-back with excellent athletic capabilities."

"Already proving himself in League One, we know that Tunmise will be an asset to the football club and we all look forward to working with him."

Tunmise Sobowale becomes Town's second signing of the 2024-25 summer transfer window, and we look forward to seeing him in action next season!
