Swindon Town Football Club can confirm that former West Brom and Huddersfield Town first-team coach Jimmy Shan has been appointed to the role of assistant first team coach.

The 45-year-old joins Town from Championship side Huddersfield Town, where he has spent part of the current campaign as a first-team coach before deciding to come to Swindon for the remaining 23/24 fixtures.

Shan started his coaching career at Birmingham City’s Academy, before he worked across various age groups at West Bromwich Albion, including under-18s, under-21s and under-23s before joining the first-team coaching staff in 2017-18. He then went on to spend a spell as caretaker manager at the Hawthorns.

After leaving the Baggies, a stint as interim manager at Kidderminster Harriers followed. From there, Shan took over the managerial reigns at Solihull Moors, where he spent 2020-21, before deciding to move to Rochdale as assistant manager in July 2021, before leaving the club in August 2022.

Following his season with Rochdale, Shan went to work at League One side Sheffield Wednesday to be reunited with former West Brom colleague Darren Moore, where they went on to achieve promotion via the play-offs in 2022-23.

Shan most recently spent time at Championship side Huddersfield Town as part of the new coaching staff at the Terriers in September 2023, but has now moved to SN1 to help Swindon Town in our final seven league fixtures of the 23/24 League Two season.

When asked about his new role, Jimmy said: "I joined just over a week ago now, so I'm getting used to my new surroundings but I am delighted to be on board."

"The lads seem a real good bunch, so I'm looking forward to getting started here".

Head of Football, Jamie Russell said on Shan's appointment: "The reason why we've brought him in is because he's worked within the EFL and he'll offer support and guidance for Gavin during these final few fixtures of the 2023/24 season.

"Alongside that, he brings a wealth of experience from academy and higher-level first-team environments and he knows the level, understands the level and knows what is required."
