Town will be looking to react to Tuesday night's result against Accrington with another home fixture against Doncaster back in SN1 this weekend too.

Today's visitors will be looking to follow on from their victory against promotion hopefuls Crewe back at the Keepmoat Stadium last weekend, with Town hoping to respond with a victory that'll see them remain above Rovers in the League Two table this Saturday.

A lowdown on the hosts

Doncaster Rovers, formed in 1879, turned professional six years later before entering the Midland League in 1891 and was elected into the Football League in 1901. Rovers were re-admitted to the Football League for a third and final time in 1923, before a mixed spell in the 1950s and 1960s.

The club continued to move between the third and fourth tiers, winning promotions in 1980–81 and 1983–84 and relegations in 1983 and 1988, before suffering relegation into non-League football in 1998.

In the early 2000s, Doncaster regained their Football League status after winning the 2003 Conference play-offs and then went on to win the Third Division title in 2003–04. Cup success followed for Donny, winning the Football League Trophy in 2007 and the next year winning the League One play-off to secure a place in the second tier for the first time since 1958.

They spent four of the next five seasons in the Championship, winning the League One title in 2012–13, though were relegated out of the Championship in 2012 and 2014. Relegated into League Two in 2016, they won an immediate promotion in 2016–17 and remained in League One until relegation in 2022 to League Two, where they currently compete for the 2023/24 season.

The manager: Grant McCann

Grant McCann, a former player, spent the majority of his career at Cheltenham Town, Scunthorpe United and Peterborough United, where he racked up more than 400 appearances across all three clubs.

At the end of his playing career, Parkinson took his first steps into management at Posh, initially taking over as Caretaker Manager in 2015, before a successful temporary reign seeing the Northern Irishman staying with the club on a full-time deal between 2016 and 2018.

The 43-year-old would go on to manage current side Doncaster (2018-19), and Hull City (2019-2022), before returning to Peterborough across the 2022/23 season before his appointment at Doncaster in May of this year.

One to watch: Hakeeb Adelakun

A forward who has thrived since his arrival to Doncaster in January in a loan move from League One side Lincoln City, Adelakun’s form has kindly coincided with his loan side’s improvement in form in the League Two table too.

Personal accolades are something that the 27-year-old has received too since his arrival to the Keepmoat Stadium, with three goals and four assists seeing the forward pick up the EFL League Two Player of the Month for February too.
