The latest news on our Swindon Town Women Development Team

8 March 2024

Swindon Town Women Development Team Manager Chiarna Deller provides the following update on the progression of her side since her last update:

Following the November fixtures the Development Team travelled to Southampton. Half-time saw an evenly matched game turned on its head with two quick-fire strikes at 55 and 56 minutes from Irene Aguado to seal the fantastic 2-1 away win.

This was followed by a trip down to the south coast to play Exeter City Reserves. Exeter showed their quality and the young Development team battled fiercely to the final whistle having suffered defeat.

Four Development players were called upon for the County Cup against Melksham Town, which allowed for a strong squad to be used against AFC Bournemouth Development.

Having suffered a cup defeat a few weeks before the Development squad was looking to pick up a result against the league leaders.

Early spells of pressure showed that this time Swindon were not going to allow Bournemouth to take control of the game.

The second half saw Town score two goals and Bournemouth managed to convert in the latter stages. However, it was not enough to stop Town from bringing home the points.

Returning from the Christmas break, Town travelled to Cheltenham for an evening game that saw high tensions and a first goal from 35 yards out for Tilda Borthwick on only her third game in the squad. Despite their best efforts, the Development Team suffered a narrow defeat.

With postponements due to weather, the Development Team went a few weeks without a league fixture. Exeter City Reserves joined us in what was the best performance from the squad this season.

With the number of injuries throughout the squad the Development Team tried their best to overcome the challenge but unfortunately suffered defeat.

Last weekend’s away fixture was unfortunately cancelled leaving the Development team focused on match prep in training to begin the run of the final four fixtures of the league campaign.

The Development Team are next in action this weekend, Sunday 10th March against Keynsham Town Reserves at the AJN Stadium, 12pm kick-off.
