PREVIEW: YEOVIL TOWN

We're looking to carry on a good record at Huish Park.

19 September 2018

Town are looking to bounce back from defeat against Bury as they travel to Yeovil Town.

Phil Brown’s side lost their second game of the season in a disappointing display at the Energy Check County Ground but have been in fighting form on the road since their first defeat against Lincoln.

Since that day, Town have travelled to Crawley Town, Forest Green Rovers and Morecambe and picked up two draws and a win – with their first clean sheet coming alongside three points in Lancashire against Jim Bentley’s Shrimps.

Last week, Luke Woolfenden picked up his first goal in league football – a volley from short range to equalise in the 55th minute against Bury – and has impressed in his opening displays for Town. On his debut, he and Town picked up their first defensive shutout of the season away at Morecambe, as the loan Woolf was, originally, at centre-half before adjusting to right-back when Kyle Knoyle was sent off.

The Oppo

Yeovil are in red-hot form. They’re unbeaten in their last six and in those games, they have not conceded a goal. Last weekend, the Glovers dispatched of Newport 6-0 at Rodney Parade.

They’re yet to lose in the league at home; however, that being the case, they have only won once so far at Huish Park this campaign picking up two draws and a win.

After picking up their biggest ever win in the EFL last week, a clean sheet in Saturday’s game could equal their best run for 22 years.

Head-to-Head

Town’s record against the Glovers is good. Back in 2012, Paolo Di Canio’s side lit up the County Ground with a 4-1 victory – Andy Williams, James Collins (2) and Danny Ward getting the goals for the Robins that day.

Last time out at Huish Park, Keshi Anderson scored a last-gasp winner to send Town fans into raptures after Kellan Gordon had cancelled out Rhys Browne’s early goal for the hosts.

The Gaffer

Darren Way has been at Yeovil, in some capacity, since 2007; however, that was not his first stint at Huish Park. He spent six years with the Glovers from 2000-2006 making 232 appearances

He re-signed on-loan from Swansea City, before signing permanently once again in 2008. Sadly though, Way’s career was cruelly cut short by a severe car crash – goalscorer Lee Peltier dedicated a message of support three days after the crash in a 3-2 victory over Swindon.

Way announced his retirement from the game 13 months after the accident in July 2009.

In 2010, Skiverton offered Way the job of technical coach and, after stints as assistant and interim manager, Way was announced as first-team manager in 2015.

REPORT: YEOVIL TOWN 0-3 SWINDON TOWN

22 September 2018

Town were imperious in their second away win on the trot as they put three past Yeovil, who hadn’t conceded in the league in the previous six games.

Steven Alzate, Matt Taylor and Elijah Adebayo were on target for the visitors who were dominant from start to finish.

All three goals came from long distance with Olufela Olomola missing a penalty with ten minutes to go – spurning the chance to give the Glovers a chance.

Swindon dominated the first half from the off, keeping the ball in the early stages of the match.

Yeovil had an early foray forward Toumani Diagouraga and Luke Woolfenden put in good blocks before Lancashire nodded home to Luke McCormick, who went relatively unchallenged all afternoon.

Keshi Anderson slipped a lovely through ball to Elijah Adebayo before Omar Sowunmi slid in to stop a shot. From the resulting corner, the ball fell to Olly Lancashire but his shot on the turn trickled just wide of the goal.

Adebayo was in the thick of the action again – he rose above Carl Dickinson at the back post but the defender did just enough to ensure the Fulham loanee’s header hit the roof of the net, rather than the back of it.

Five minutes later, it was Keshi’s turn to find the top of the net – after the ball was half-cleared by the Glovers, Anderson looked to guide a lob over Batxter but it kissed the top of the crossbar on the way down.

Deadlock at the break.

Town continued to press but to no avail – a moment of worry followed a period of possesion when Yeovil looked to go forward. Sid Nelson slid in and looked in pain – but true to previous showings of character the Millwall loanee carried on.

Town warned Yeovil of a pending opener – Keshi fizzed a shot towards goal that swayed before Baxter tipped over. Five minutes later, Baxter was beaten.

Alzate glided past his man in midfield has he had done all game long and unleashed a fierce shot from 25 yards – the Yeovil goalkeeper was helpless to prevent as the ball skidded off the sodden ground and into the corner.

From that, Town pushed for a second – Keshi, a constant thorn in the Glovers’ side, was in behind but Baxter made himself big to stop a second. Alzate looked to add to his tally but his effort was straight at Baxter who was keeping his side in the game.

Town got their second in equally impressive fashion to the first – Matt  Taylor whipped in a trademark free-kick from 25 yards to put the Robins two up and looking likely for their second away win on the trot.

Two minutes, later with ten minutes to play and it looked like Town had made it difficult for themselves – Keshi Anderson knocked over a Yeovil attacker and the referee pointed to the spot.

Southampton loanee, Olufela Olomola stepped up but he put his penalty over the goal, via the top of the crossbar.

Buoyed by that, Town went in search of a third to really put a marker down – and it came with another belter. Elijah Adebayo cut inside on the corner of the left-hand side of the box and bent an effort into the far-right post. That sealed a dominant Town performance in front of 871 travelling fans.
