Will Henry has described his experience at an England Goalkeepers Camp last week as “unbelievable” and is now hoping for more adventures with his country.
The young keeper spent Wednesday and Thursday honing his skills with England coaches at St George’s Park, training alongside stoppers from top Premier League Academies.
Speaking to the local media this morning, Henry reflected on the experience and outlined his ambitions going forward when it comes to representing his country.
“I really enjoyed the experience and just wearing the Three Lions kit was unbelievable – I thoroughly enjoyed it,” he said.
“We had an introduction with all the keepers there and we had two training sessions on the Wednesday.
“They filmed training and they clipped our individual stuff so we could go through our clips with the coaches and evaluate our own performance in training.
“We had a recovery session as well so we were able to use all the equipment and the facilities at St George’s Park as well.
“Then on Thursday we did a morning training session, went through our clips and then had a debrief and that was it.
“St George’s Park was unbelievable and they’ve got absolutely everything there that a footballer could dream of facility wise.
“I just really enjoyed being there.”
Henry trained alongside goalkeepers from Premier League Academies and admitted that it felt strange to be the most experienced keeper in attendance at the camp.
“I don’t think any of them had played first-team football which was weird for me going there as the most experienced one, but it was a good standard of goalkeepers and they had come from top clubs,” he continued.
“It was good to see where I’m at in my development compared to them.
“With club football they teach you the technique in certain areas whereas at international level they enforce that technique in game situations so we did a lot of sessions that would be similar to what you would see in a game.
“It was good to experience that because it was the first time I had experienced that type of training and it was good to see where I was at technically.”
Henry now wants to push on and put himself in the frame for a potential call-up to the England U19s squad.
“That is the next step hopefully and I’ve just got to keep my head down, work hard, keep doing what I’m doing and take my chances when they arrive and hopefully keep impressing them – hopefully I can do my bit and get called back,” he concluded.
