Williams On Why Colkett And Ajose Missed Chesterfield

5 March 2017

Nicky Ajose and Charlie Colkett both missed Town’s 1-0 defeat to Chesterfield on Saturday due to injury, Head Coach Luke Williams has confirmed.

The duo were notable absentees from the Reds’ Starting XI yesterday, although both players aren’t expected to be on the treatment table for too long.

“We don’t know the timeframe for a return for Nicky but it looks like a Grade One, which is the lighter end of the scale,” Williams said.

“We hope it is not too serious and both players are receiving some treatment, so we hope for a speedy recovery.

“Nicky has got a hamstring issue and it appears to be on the less serious side of a return.

“We won’t know the extent of it until we talk to Charlton and until we talk to our Physio.”

And Williams admitted that both players were a big miss yesterday, particularly Nicky Ajose.

“We know for sure that Nicky is going to score if we give him the right pass and we know for sure that him and Jon (Obika) are a very good combination,” he added.

“Luke Norris gave us everything on Saturday and he’s frustrated because he wanted to get one clear chance and score for us and Jordan Stewart will be disappointed that he didn’t find the space to squeeze the ball in.

“But Nicky’s record speaks for itself and we know that the combination works with Brad Barry, with him and Jon and with him and Ben Gladwin.

“He was a big loss and we’ve seen Charlie Colkett’s quality – he’s got something special.

“He can see a pass and he can hold people off and he’s developed a good relationship with Rohan Ince, so he was a big, big miss.”
