Cooper: We Were Brilliant

26 August 2014

MARK Cooper spoke to the media after Town's cup exit at the hands of Brighton.

On the performance...
I take everything from that performance. The thing that stands out is nearly every Brighton player and member of the coaching staff came to find me after and say "what a fantastic football team you have. You have an amazing bunch of players." They did more analysis on us than a Championship team. I said to the players take that and if you can believe in that (performance) and how good you are, you can go as far as you want, even with nine and a half men at the end. We were brilliant.

On taking chances...
In the first half we should have been up with the chances we had. You need to score and if you don't you make sure you don't concede. Saying that, their first goal was a fantastic goal. Our players were incredible - against a Championship team, to be so dominant is credit to the players.

On injuries...
Michael Smith was playing with one arm, George Barker one arm, Ben Gladwin could have broken his ankle. At the end, Michael Smith couldn't move but we still went forward and gave them a real scare at 3-2.

On the result...
That's football - you take it on the chin. I'm just pleased with how we played and you saw the reception they got from the supporters at the end.

Looking ahead to Saturday...
We've got faith in our young players. If we have to play them then we will play them. It is what it is, we won't bleat about it.
