Report: Ladies Beat League Leaders

20 October 2014

THE Town traveled Gloucestershire to face top of the table and unbeaten Forest Green Rovers in a FA Women's Premier League fixture and won by three goals to one, writes Roger Reeves.

The Town started strongly and should have taken the lead in the first minute when Beth Thompson's cross caused a mix-up in the Rovers' defence but the Town forwards were unable to take advantage. Swindon were in control and Beth Thompson and Meg Vella brought the home 'keeper Georgia Macey into action.

Michelle Rich saw her shot rebound to safety off the Rover's cross bar. When Rovers did eventually break through the Town's defence, 'keeper Robyn Levett saved comfortably from Abbie Sadler. With the first half in added time, Rovers were awarded a free kick just outside the area and Charlotte King drove the ball low into the net to put the home side ahead.

The Town took seven minutes to draw level when Meg Attenborough knocked in Michelle Rich's corner. The Town eventually took a deserved lead when Meg Vella found the net following a long, individual run. Rovers' cross bar twice saved them from falling further behind when Meg Vella and then Chyna Colllings shots had the 'keeper beaten. With the game in added time Chyna Collings scrambled in Michelle Rich's free kick.

A good three points against the League's in-form side.
