Former Liverpool midfielder Jake Cain joined Town in January 2023.
The 21-year-old pens a two-and-a-half year deal that will keep him at the County Ground until the summer of 2025, and becomes our second January capture following Charlie Austin’s return to SN1 earlier this month.
Born in Wigan, Cain signed his first professional contract with Liverpool back in September 2019, making his senior debut under Jurgen Klopp in February 2020 in an FA Cup fourth-round replay against Shrewsbury Town.
In September 2020, he scored his first senior goal, netting for The Reds in a 3-2 EFL Trophy defeat to Tranmere Rovers, scoring an impressive 30-yard free kick.
Although he was unable to force his way into the Liverpool first-team on the pitch, Jake was named on their bench 13 times in the Premier League and trained regularly with Klopp’s seniors.
The youngster is no stranger to League Two football either, spending last season at Newport County on loan, where he made 25 appearances for The Exiles
