REACTION: Gaffer Pleased With First Pre-Season Run-Out

Phil Brown Gives His Verdict On Ciren Win

5 July 2018

Swindon Town Boss Phil Brown spoke to the local media after watching his side beat Cirencester Town 3-1 in a pre-season friendly on Wednesday night.

Here are the key points from what he had to say...

ON THE GAME:

"The fitness levels are very good at the moment but we probably came back a little bit earlier than we wanted to.

"We've been back ten days now and you could tell that. No disrespect to Cirencester but I expected that level of fitness.

"I'm not bothered about results, I never am in pre-season, and you will get that level of consistency from me in any after-match conference that we do.

"All I am bothered about is getting a fully-fit squad ready for August 4th and I mean that.

"I was fairly relaxed from the sidelines because I wanted to see my players perform.

"There is a lot to like about the game but it's the first game."

ON FORMATIONS:

"I like a 4-3-3, I must admit, but I would play two strikers down the middle if the signings we make dictate that.

"Keshi Anderson played the number nine role in the second-half and, instead of being a big lad like we had in the first-half, he was a more mobile lad and I was more excited by the movement in the second-half, yet we drew that half 1-1 and we won the first-half 2-0.

"There are arguments for and against but there are also arguments in the second-half that everyone was being attracted to the ball instead of being someone like Jermaine McGlashan who stretched the game."

ON TRIALISTS:

"Hopefully the group of trialists impressed enough to be around for the Melksham game and then we'll make a call on them in terms of whether or not they will come to Spain with us.

"I was impressed with the attitude and the mentality of the trialists and I've got to chew over the next few days whether they did enough to earn a contract."

ON MARC RICHARDS:

"Every time we trained on astroturf Marc stiffened up and he was out for a couple of days - I didn't want that at this stage.

"I wanted him to train fully up until yesterday and then he had a day of rest, which isn't the end of the world.

"I always look after my senior pros and I always will do."
